LSI Logic Corporation introduced a physical layer memory interface that can save customers months of development time while improving product performance with the industry's highest speed DDR-2 SDRAM technology. LSI Logic's new DDR-2 ASIC core is the first physical layer interface and I/O buffer to support 333MHz/667Mbps data speeds, enabling manufacturers of data storage, communications, multi-function printers, industrial and medical equipment to take advantage of the memory technology's superior density, bandwidth and lower cost.

In 2004, Hitachi GST plans a substantial manufacturing expansion for the 4 gigabyte (GB) Microdrive product at its Thailand facility. This development is being spurred by the proliferation of hard disk-based storage in consumer electronic devices, especially portable digital music players.

Toshiba is among the few companies that still produces DVD technology. The company has unveilled quality drives in the past, and currently, after quite some time of "inactivity", comes up with the new SD-R5272 dual format recorder. The drive is compatible with all current formats such as DVD-R/RW and +R/RW, CDs as well as DVD-RAM (read).

Seagate at WinHEC demonstrated in head-to-head tests using Intel's IOMeter benchmark that its Barracuda 7,200-rpm Serial ATA (SATA) hard drive with Native Command Queuing (NCQ) technology equals or exceeds the performance of the latest 10,000-rpm SATA hard drives on the market. Seagate also announced it is shipping its Barracuda 7200.7 SATA hard drives with NCQ technology to direct OEM customers next month.

The Mobile PC market became the fastest growing segment of the computer market due to consumers' desire for mobility. According to a recently released report from The NPD Group's point-of-sale tracking service, May 2003 marked the first time that the dollar sales of notebook computers sold, surpassed the sales of desktop computers in U.S. retailers. Gartner analysts say, that over the next three years a 40 percent increase is expected in the mobile PC business, and in 2007 mobile PC shipments will equal traditional desktop computers shipments worldwide.
