Seagate Removable Storage Solutions (RSS) and HP announced plans to develop, manufacture, market and distribute the next generation of DDS (digital data storage) technology with 5th-generation DDS tape products in 2003. Features will include backwards read-and-write capability; higher capacity; and unique solutions with multiple configurations.

LSI Logic announced it has initiated co-development product planning with leading hard disk drive manufacturers Fujitsu, Maxtor, and Seagate. LSI Logic will use its Fusion-MPT (Message Passing Technology) architecture as the basis for the evolution of Serial Attached SCSI (SAS) silicon. The architecture simplifies product design, being modular building block based, and therefore provides a proven pathway for product development to assure a first-to-market solution for LSI Logic and its hard disk drive partners.
