Netgear announce 802.11ac D6200 router at CES as reported by Ars Technica

This is hot on the heals of the rumour that Apple will be using a Broadcom chipset in their next generation Macs and bodes well for the future of the emerging standard.

For the uninitiated 802.11ac is otherwise known as 5G Wifi and that it triples the theoretical maximum speed of Wifi – when compared against 802.11n. The Netgear D6200 modem router combines ADSL2+ modem, 5 Gigabit Ethernet ports and support for gigabit fibre-optic WAN. This is tremendous news is Google fibre gets rolled out further and hopefully will be compatible with BT’s fibre-optic connectivity.

A USB port plus Netgear’s ReadySHARE cloud will allow you to share USB printers, flash drives and hard drives on the network.

There are no price details at the moment but are due to be released April 2013.
