Toshiba Europe Storage Device Division launched six new high capacity and energy efficient 2.5-inch HDDs for use in notebooks and PCs. The new HDDs are testament to Toshiba’s ability to continue pioneering high capacity storage solutions to suit the ever-increasing demands of digital content and Web 2.0 applications created by consumers.
The dual platter 400 Gigabytes (GB) MK4058GSX is Toshiba’s largest ever capacity HDD for use in storage-heavy mobile devices and offers an areal density of 477Mbit/mm² – the world’s highest areal density to date. The drive, which features a silent seek functionality, is ideal for today’s digital-hungry market that increasingly downloads content such as music, audio and video whilst on the move. The MK4058GSX can store up to 100,000 high quality MP3 files or 160 hours of DVDquality video. This drive functions at an extremely low energy consumption level of 0.0015W/GB.
The dual platter 7,200 revolutions per minute (rpm) 320GB MK3254GSY has been designed to offer substantial storage capacity in notebooks and PCs, with a high speed internal transfer rate to enhance performance. Toshiba has also released a complete range of capacity drives to cater for every notebook expectation and function. The series includes the 250GB MK2554GSY, 160GB MK1654GSY, 120GB MK1254GSY, 80GB MK8042GSY.
With the recent explosion in the volume of user-generated content and the increased availability of downloadable digital media such as music, video and social networking, consumers are choosing capacity and technical prowess over aesthetics and functionality in notebooks. Despite recent global economic factors, recent reports by leading analyst business IDC showed that notebook sales in Europe rose by 30 per cent in the first quarter of 2008 when compared with the first quarter of 20071 and global PC sales remain robust.
